The Public Trust Office, constituted by "The I'ublic: Tru^t Oilicis Act, 1872," bos been since much enlarged in its functions by amending Acts, to meet p'owing recjuircmeutß. Tbe Amendment Act of 1891 facilitates adiniuistration, authorises prompt distribution, provides absolute security against loss to estates from investments at the discretion of the l'ublic Trustee, aud insures tbe regular payment of the interest. The Security and Fidelity of the Public Trustee's administration must be considered of tho utmost importance to every person contemplating the appointment of a trustee. The colony <iwu<iiitt<:x the fidelity of the administration, nnd Guarantees also the Integrity of the Capital Funds invested at the option of the I'ublic Trustee. The Colony Guarantees also, on the capital funds arising for investment out of tbo properties placed in tbe l'ublic Trust Omce, a common rate of interest, to be paid quarterly, Free of all charges of the Public Trust Office. The value of this punrnuteo is in tbo Guarantee of the Colony against loss from investments in bad or lnsutlicieut securities, and against loss from delay iv investment, uurt for the regular and punctual payment of the interest, free <if all charflcs of t)io Public Trust Office. In tho appointment of Trustees there must always bo serious concern as to the security of the Capital funds; and tho larger tho capital funds tbe greater must be tlio concern for security, and the less for a high rate of interest. Tho Public Trustee cannot die, cannot leave tbo colony, caunot become disqualified, or involved in private difficulties; and cannot be distrusted. In private trusteeships, death and absenco render necessary numerous and expensive deeds not required by Public Trustee s administration, which baa, besides, tho office solicitor's advice without expense to tbo estates.
