Wesleyan Mission Lecture at Campbeiltown

At the Wesley an Church, Campbelltown, last night, the lut Mr Watkin delivered an elaborate address on Wesleyau Missions. There was a Rood attendance, and Mr Watkin lectured for an hour and a half. In the opening portion of hi 3 lecture he showed how the Wesleyan Church was organised by John "Wesley about 88 years ago, and the Wesleyan Mission Society which was formed at Leeds 111 1817. He gave a description of most of the Wesloyan Missionaries, amon? them beinij Wesley, T. Coke, who opened missions in New Found land and America, and who died while sailing to Ceylon to open missions there. He al«ogarc an amusing account of Carry, of India, who was called the "Sanctified Cobbler." Tho chief missionaries weronamed, and a short record of their lives gircn, with amusing incidents. Mr Watkin stated that Wesleyan Mission work first started 111 Xcw Zealand at Whangaroa, John Thomas, Hazelwood, Fletcher, Kcvington. Ironside, and Ueorgo Brown being some of the chief workers. He then gavo a pathetic address on the only two Mission Martyrs in New Zealand, who were John Whitely and Volkner. Tin; conversions of tho King of Fiji and of Iving George of the South Sea Islands, under Mr Watorhouse, were very interesting, who from being Bavaj»es changed to be earnest Christians. The lecture, on the whole, was well delivered and much appreciated by the hearers. Mr H. Hanson moved a vote of thanks to Mr Watkin, which brought the proceedings to a close.
