The Revolution at Rio Janeiro
MORE DESPERATE FIGHTING. THE REBELS GAINING GROUND. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Washington, September 15. News from Brazil states that a desperate sea fight has taken place between the loyal Brazilian warship Bahia and the insurgent vessel Alagos. The latter was disabled. The bombardment of the capital lasted two days, and the rebels have gained a foothold in Rio de Janeiro. The President has abandoned the capital and retreated to Santa Anna with a few loyal troops. The rebels have been re in forced with supplies of arms by sailing ships. The rebellion is spreading. The- Bahia and Pernainbuco are joining the rebels. All the forts in Rio do Jamero except one, have gone over to the rebels. An attack on Rio Grande is feared. Rio Janieko, September 16. Tho insurgents have seized the Customs House and Arsenal ;md also captured Nictheroy, a suburb five miles east of the city. __
