CONFERENCE OF COUNTRY RAC ING CLUBS.
The long-talked of Conference of delegates from various country racing clubs, convened by the Manawatu llacing Club, was held at Palmerston yesterday. The delegates present comprised the following: — Feilding, Mr Goodbehore ; tfnngitikei, Mr C. L. Maclean; Foxtou, Mr J. It. M'Millan ; Napier Park, Mr Danvers ; "Waipawa, Mr Gray; M'arrongate, G. Morse ; Saudon, J. Henry ; Ashurst, Mr J Cotter; Manawatu Club nnd also Wellington United Hunt Club, Mr J. H. Hankins; Kangitikei Hunt Club, Mr Foster-Pratt. Mr J. H. Hankins was voted to the chair, and in his opening remarks concluded that he might take it that those present were favourable to the movement with the object of seeming representation on the Metropolitan bodies. He gave his reasons for the action taken by the Manawatu Racing Club, and he thought if the Metropolitan Clubs would come down a little from the high position they took up, the matter might be easily and satisfactorily arranged The chairman quoted the following statistics : — Wellington District. — Metropolitan Club, 7 days' racing; stakes, L 4585. Mr Danvers said th- Metropolitan Clubs had done good work in the past, but the time had arrived when tho country clubs should be given a voice in the management of their affairs-. Mr Grey moved, and Mr Cotter seconded, That the different Metropolitan Clubs be requested to proceed to the election of delegates us s-nou as possible and that a conference bn convened im mediately afterwards. — Carried unanimously. The secretary was instructed to forward the resolutions to each of the Metropolitan Clubs, and to the elocted delegates to the conference. TUe delegates were entertained in the evening at dinner by the Manawatu Racing Club at the Commercial Hotel. — Standard. (PKB PKESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, September 14. At a meeting of I lie stewards of the Wellington Racing Club a programme for the present season was drawn up. It was decided to hold ouly three race meetings, and the total amount of added monejr was fixed at £3. 770 distributed as follows: — Spring Meeting, November 17th and 18th, £900; .Summer Meeting, January 22nd and 24-tli. Jt 1,700; Winter Meeting, May 2nd ami ord. 11,170, being an average of £G.JO per day. Mr Sam Powell was re-elected. Sydney. September It.
