At a meeting of the prohibitionists at Sydenham this evening, a motion was carried emphatically protesting againt the principles embodied in the Government Licensing Bill, as antagonistic to the rights of the people to control the liquor trafllc, and urging the Upper House to exercise its functions and prevent tho Bill from becoming law. Timahu, September 5. At a public meeting last night, attended by 000 to 700 people, half being females, resolutions were adopted thanking Mr Hall- Jones, the local member, for opposing the Licensing Bill, protesting against the Bill as a retrogressive step, aud expressing the hope that the Legislative Couucil will prevent its being law.
