A pathetic scone is described as having taken place at the Greta colliery, in New South Walos, last month. On it being announced thut the mine would be worked for two days, after being closed for several months, a number of miners cried with joy at tho prospect of even that short Bpell of work. Destitution in the district has been so great that families have boen reduced almost to starvation. Surely tho meu who have learned this bitter lesson will in tho future refuse to bo led by agitators to commit tho fully of goiug out ou striite again on the smallest provocation. Look at the contrast in a New Zealand mine. A telegram yesterday stated that the directors of the Xaitangata Railway aud Coal Com puny have declared a dividend at the rate of 17J per cent, per annum and passed the sum of £500 to be distributed amongst miuors, carrying forward £2826 to next year, after writing off a liberal sum for depreciation of mine ! and plant. ,
