The bluest temperance demonstration that has over taken place at the Thames was held this evening, when an immense procession, the number being over 7000, marched through the principal streets to the Academy of Music, where the Key. Isitt was announced to deliver an address on The Traffic and Direct Veto. Mr Isitt spoke for one and a half hours, and had an exceedingly successful meeting. At the close of his address the following resolution was carried unanimously : " That we, at public meeting assembled, desire to protest against the Alcoholic Liquors Control Bill as passed in the Lower House, as opposed to democratic principles, and affirm the principle of direct veto by a bare majority ; and that a copy of this resolution bn wired to Sir Robert Stout. A meeting, comprising: three local contingents of the Salvation Army aud the Chrisicuurch Prohibition Leagues, was held to-night, when about a thousand persons were present. The following motion, by the 'Hoy P. W. llsitt. was curried : — ' That this meeting pleads earnestly with the Legislative Council to exercise their power for tho proven* tiou of hasty and ill-considered legislation, and compel the question of licensing legislation to bt> referred to the people.'
