THE MANAGER ADDRESSES THE CROWD. LADIES WITHDRAWING THEIR BALANCES. The run on the Sayings Bank continues, but is not likely to be serious. It is now understood the panic was caused by a report thnt the institution was heavily involved by the Loan and Mercantile suspension. The Trustees state there is uo truth in this report. Tney meet at noon to prepare a manifesto to the public. The rumour about the iuvolyoment of the Savings Bank eeoine to havo beou started yesterday, and thousands crowded in mostly small depositors, half womou, and some thousand pounds havo been paid out. The manager, Mr Cameron .addressed the crowd, and showed the cash book with the working capital of L 57,000 to-day, and said it was absolutely untrue tho Bank was connected with the Loan and Mercantile. This allayed the fears of many. Ladies are still thronging in for small balances, but the panic is practically over. The Directors resolved not to pay any amounts over L~>, informing the applicants that money over that sum could be obtained on several days' notice.
