Marian Willis Dramatic Com* pany

On Monday, September 4th, the Marian "Willis Company will appear in the Assembly Rooms in the great American drama serio - comic play entitled "Emm the Elf " which is essentially an American production. It is of the usual melodramatic type and is dealt with in a bright and lively manner, the amusing element predominating. The interest of the story hinges upon the fortunes of Ernia, who, when a child was stolen from her dying father by Oscar Horton, an adventurer, and then handed over to a ruffian named Robert Raikes, to be made away with. This Raikes does not kill the child, but adopts her. His brutal treatment causes her to fly from him and she joins Bosanka's travelling theatre. She is alarmed by Raikes, and takes refuge with a kind-hearted old gentleman named Bluffkin, who gavo her a home. Bluflkin has two nephews — Harry Roinney and Oscar Horton — the adventurer. llomney is engaged to Horton's sister, but her proud and petulant nature causes him to bestow his love on " Emm," This the uncle objects to, and Erina leaves. She then discovers a plot on the part of Horton and Raikes to destroy her and rob her uncle. Raikes' wife is blamed for having betrayed the conspiracy, and the villian sets his garret on fire. Just as he is about to throw his wife into the flames " Erma " appears as Mephistopholes, clad in a | costume she had bought from Bosanka. I The dismay of Raikes is complete. He and Horton are next seen breaking a safe, and Erma conveniently appears to frustrate them. The alarm is given, the robbers are given into custody, and Enna is proved to be tho daughter of BlufFkins' brother, the heiress to great wealth. On Tuesday Fergus Hume's Famous Australian Play entitled " Madame Midas " will be produced. This is the piece which caused so much excitement in Melbourne. For this piece Miss Willis has had some special scenery painted. Box plan at W. Carthew's.
