The Government Licensing Bill

A meeting at temperance advocates was held in the Foresters' Hall last evening ; Mr Burroughs in the chair. Mr J. C. Thompson explained the objects of the meeting, viz. : To pass a motion request* ing the Government to postpone the Licensing Bill at present before the House. The speaker then proposed the following; resolution, which was seconded by Mr Shearer, and carried unanimously : — " That this meeting strongly protests against the haste with which the Government are pushing their Licensing Bill through the House, and that if the Bill is passed it is calculated to render all efforts for temperance reform fruitless for years to come, and urges the Government to abandon the Bill till after the approaching elections, and that copies of this resolution be sent to the secretary ot the New Zealand Alliance and to Mr Bruce." A public meeting was held here tonight, to consider the Government Licensing Bill.
