Pohangina Notes

(HY OUR TRAVELLING CORRESPONDENT.) I hare beeu making one of my periodical tours in this district and notice that the improvements are going on apace. It is quite lively in the township where buildings and fences are being erected in all directions. The bush is being felled rapidly, and you can see the bushmen's camps well up the ranges. The great drawback is that our roads are getting badly cut up for want of fine weather and a few loads of metal hero and there. There aro somo very bad holes on tho Valley road, and unless they are repaired there will be somo sad accident happen. One place in particular, near Mr Cumin's house, is so bad thnt horses havo gone right down and only been extricated with groat difficulty. I think that with the high rates we are pnying we should havo better highways to travel on. It is hard enough to have to put our hands deep in our pockets, for money to keep the roads in repair, without having ourhtads stuck into niudholes whether we like it or not. I hope our Warden will .see to this. The few warm days wo have have had haye made the grass look up. I expect the percentage of lambs will be good this season, as the owes are looking very well. There is a great show of peach and plum blossoms. Everybody is planting potatoes. During the recent heavy nuns, the Pohnngina river wns very high aud laudslips were numerous. Measles are well to the front, bu', they do not last long here. The school inspector examined the scholars last "Wednesday, but the at« tendance was not large, owing to the riTer being high, and the measles abundant.
