The Christchurch Sensation.
TWO LAWYERS COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. [Per Press Association] Chbistcuchch, August 23. Mr Stringer, for the Assignee, said the information was laid under section 137, of the Bankruptcy Act, and set out the case the Crown intended to establish against Harper and Co. He would lead evidence to show that in January, 1892, the firm was hopelessly insolvent with at least £146,000 deficiency, and the present information made January, 1892, the time at which to start, as there was no possible doubt of the insolvency of the firm since that time. Debts had been contracted, money received on deposit had been appropriated by being paid into the firms banking account, which was overdrawn, and securities had been transferred to the bank. The information was confined to only bankruptcy offences. Alexander Millar, accountant, stated I th«*. several amounts received for invest* tnent were paid into the firm's banking account. Mrs F. B. Frieston was a creditor for £400, invested in two mortgages. Both were paid off, received by the firm, and paid into its account. Miss L. L. Wise, £•1925 ; O. L. T. Patterson, £500 ; Admiral Hoskins, £200 6s 3d ; executors of A. 11. Bradshaw, £1500 ; Rev H. H. Gillett, £1000 ; Right Hon, A. J.
