Sandon Block Notes

[by our travelling correspondent.] The residence erected by Mr Crabbe never fails to enlist the admiration of the stranger on his way into the Block. It is a finely appointed and handsome building, and presents a pretty and effective appearance, as seen by the road. The Mesars Ross Bros., are hard at work clearing; the (bush off the reserve. It will be a decided advantage when finished, as this portion of the road, which is always in a bad state, will now get a chance to dry up. The timber for Mr G. Ellison's house is now on the ground, so the erection of his residence will soon be an accomplished fact. It is pleasing to chronicle the improvements going on, and to let the outside world know that we are slowly, but steadily progressing. I understand that Mr C. Wei ford, so popular with all, intends shortly to take unto himself a life partner. We all unite in congratulating him on the successful arrangement of •♦ a little matrimonial spec," and trust that much of joy and little of sadness may be his always. Owing to the bad weather lately prevailing, the roads are in places almost impassable, and the sturdy settler has good cause to envy those having a solid metal road in front of their abodes. It is understood that a store is shortly to be erected on the property owned by Mr Ross. A well supplied store will undoubtedly prove a boon to our settlors, and supply a want that has been much felt by them. The gay and festive Cupid tells me that Mr Gray is soon to enter the matrimonial circle. May lots of joy and all good luck attend Mr Gray in his joyous venture. I should like to have the pleasure of seeing, some more of our bachelors emulating the good example set forth by Mr Gray. Mr Smith, formerly of Bulls, is now busily engaged in making arrangements for the establishment of a brick making business in the Block. Wo all hope to see his energy liberally rewarded in the near future. Mr E. Roper's four-roomed house is now nearly completed. It is a fine substantial building, and comfortably appointed in every respect. Mr Roper hopes soon to be in occupation. Mr Paulin, one of our most enterprising settlers, is also having a residency built on his property. The house which is in every way adapted for Mr Paulin's reqnirenients, will shortly be finished. It is worthy of note that the advancement made in the Block during the past twelve months, despite many drawbacks of various kinds, has been.

very great. To anyone who notices the improvements made, and the many buildings going up here and there, the progress is clearly apparent. Though not booming we are surely and stendily advancing.
