Feilding Borough Council.

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night to consider the Engineor's plans and estimates for the re-building of the South street bridge. Present— The Mayor, Councillors Carthew, Chamberlain, Fowles, Haybittle, Lethbridge, and Sandilands. The Engineer's report recommended that either a truss bridge of 50 feet span, or one of 40 feet span, or else a stringer bridge of S3 feet span be constructed, the width in each instance would be 14 feet The report advised that the span be either 40 or 00 feet in length. The channel at the site of the bridge is now about 40 feet wide, but at the fence line below the site it is only 25 feet wide, being confined by willows, etc., which block back the water. If the bridge is constructed the willows should be cleared away. If a ford and temporary footbridge ia constructed, the cost would be about 112. In reply to Cr. Haybittle, the Mayor thought that the Council would be able to pay for the cost of the bridge out of ordinary reveuue, though it was cutting it rather fine. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Chamberlain, That tenders be called for the erection of a truss bridge of 40 feet span and 14 feet wide. Tenders to be in by next meeting of the Couucil.- • Carried, Cr Fowles dissenting. This was all tho business and the Council adjourned.
