"-♦ BAD WEATHER PREDICTED, (per pbess association.) Melbourne, August 16. The Magistrate refused the applications for summonses in connection with the Mercantile Bank cases on the ground that similar applications had previously been made, also that the accused had been much harassed and that, the colony had been put to great expense. An animated discussion took place between counsel and the Magistrate, the latter stating that he could apply to the Supreme Court if he choose. The latter intimated that he would take further steps. Sydney, This Day. The Premier announced in the Assembly that owing to the late administration of the Chinese Restriction Bill in New South Wales steps would be taken to prevent an influx overland into this colony. Brisbane, This Day. Mr Wragge reports the barometric disturbance predicted yesterday now affects the waters between New Castle and Wellington. Stormy weather may be expected between Cook Strait and Stewarts Island.
