New Settlers
(PKU PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland. August 11 Courtney's party of immigrants, per Ruahino. leave tonight by tho Takapuna for New Plymouth, and comprise 02 adults and 20 children. They wore met on arrival by Mr J. E. March, superintendent of Government settlements, who was sent up specially by the Government to meet them He gavo the intending settiers to-day every information concerning Taranaki— quality of the land, wages ruling, etc. The party comprises 73 adults and two children, 16 of the number being women. The majority are young men, formerly employed in London oflices, in city occupations only, few being practically acquainted with tho work of farming. Nearly all possess a little money. It appears to be their general intention to seek work on farms prior to taking tip land. Though not practical farmers, the majority of the immigrants appear to be of a good stamp, and suitable for settlers. Mr Courtney had given a number of lectures ou Taranaki in England. Those wero tho means of inducing many to como out.
