Sunday Afternoon Meeting
The P.S.A. meetings in Short's Hall provide for young men means by which knowledge may be gained and pleasure increased. Yesterday's gathering was presided over by Mr William Ciuthew. " Yield not to temptation," was the opening hytnn. Mr Barker then delivered an address upon " Social Purity." The speaker in his opening remarks referred to reasons which made it only too necessary to speak on matters of this kind. He showed in these remarks that though he was dealing straight by plain speaking, still a brotherly heart was beating beneath his form. He urged that a firm stand should be made by all present, and that they should treat as loathsome, anyone who dare attempt to pollute the minds of young men with unholy allusions or degrading conversation. There was a very good attendance, and the speaker was frequently applauded by his hearers. The address concluded with expressions of sympathy and thanks to those present for their help. Mr Downie then alluded to Mr Barker's departure from Feildinfj, and felt sure that ho was speaking for all present in expressing .the great loss the P S.A. Association experienced in losing that gentleman's services Mr Barker would take with him hearty congratulations to the P. S.A. meetings in Nelson from the Feilding branch.
