Wellington* August 13. Yesterday afternoon a collision took place in Adelaide road between a cart driven by a Chinese gardener named Lee Long, and an expressman named Dindle. In the row the Chinaman was badly worsted, and in defence drew a pocket knife and stabbed his assailant, John Matthews, in the neck, inflicting a wound half an inch deep, but not of a dangerous character. Lee Long, who was arrested, is in a very weak state. This Day. The Pauiatua suspension footbridge OTer the Mangatainoka river collapsed on Saturday afternoon owing to loft of one bank being washed away by the flood. Great damage has been done to private property through the river changing its course.
