Island News OVER 200 DEATHS FROM MEASLES.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. I Auckland. August 11. Latest news from the islauds is that Mataafa and twelve chiefs were taken on the German warship Sperber, and conveyed on the 25th July, it is supposed, to the I nion Group, where they will be kept close prisoners. Numbers of others were sentenced to terms of imprisonment, and rebellious districts fined. This was settled after a conference between the Consuls and the Snmoan Government The measles epidemic is prevalent in Tonga, and the population are prostrated. Over 200 deaths hare occurred, including some of the leading chiefs.
