[Per Press Association.] Mklbocknk, August 8. The Metropolitan Board of works hae adopted the report of the Finance Committee respecting the new loan. During tho debate on the Budget a motion to report progress which was regarded as tantamount to a disapproval of further taxation, was carried by 44 to 37. The Premier intimated he would require a straight out vote on the income tax at the next sitting. The complete returns of cereal crops for the year show the yield of wheat to be 14,814,000 bushels ; that of oats, 4,574,000 bushels ; barley, 774,000 bushels ; potatoes, 142,000 tons ; hay, 740,000 tons. The yield of wheat averaged 11-04 bushels per acre, and oats 25 75 bushels per acre. Sydney, August 8. Tho Chingtu, which was disabled off the coast, has reached port safely after her trying experience. The railway returns for the year show a profit of a million and a quarter. Hodart, August 8. The Ruahine arrived at 2 p.m. and sails at midnight for Auckland. She brought 23 passengers for Australia, including Visouut Gormanston, Governor of Tasmania. There are 176 for New Zealand, among whom is Bishop Julius, of Christchurch A large crowd assembled to meet tho Governor, and he was accorded an enthusiastic welcome. Bbishane, August 8.
