Manawatu Road Board.
♦ j The monthly meeting of the above was I held at Palmerston yesterday. Present : j Wardens McEwen (in the chair), Stevens, ; Stubbs, and Knight. 1 The Secretary reported that the bank book showed a credit balance of £254. The following transfers were agreed to : —Section No. 1496, Bunnythorpe, from H. Holland to G. Holland ; section No. 1520, Bunnythorpe, from H. Holland to C. Peck. Letters were read, from Mr JR. B. Smith, requesting the Boajrd to fall road line adjoining sections 1528-6, Bunny* thorpe ; and from Mr C. Gore, Bunnythorpe, offering to do certain work on Gore's line for the £8 10s. Mr D. Madden waited on the Board and requested them to take some steps to get the road netvr Bunnythorpe metalled. He stated that at a meeting of ratepayers held at Bunnythorpe a few days ago, which was largely attended by settlers residing in the Manchester Road District, it was unanimously decided that the Manchester Road Board should be asked to carry out the metalling, or nt least a greater part of it. He thought the Manawatu Board should ask the Manchester Board to contribute towards the cost of metalling. It was resolved that the Manchester Board be asked to gravel the Cemetery road, seeing that the Manawatu Board had cleared and formed it. It was decided to take the necessary steps to raise a loan of i'soo for forming and metalling Milsom's line from the Boundary road to the BunnythorpeKairanga road. A discussion took place on the charges made by the Manchester Road Board in connection with additional work carried out at the Aorangi Bridge* The opinion was expressed that the charge for erecting the fence was very high. An objection to pay a proportion of the overseer's charges for inspecting the pile-driving was also made, on the ground that Mr Bray had stated that it was necessary for him to be present and inspect the work ; and that the Board understood that payment for such supervision was included in the Engineer's charges for preparing plans and estimates. — ft was decided on the motion of Warden Knight, seconded by Warden Stevens, that the claim be paid less the proportion of overseer's charges. The contractor for the protective works I at the Awnhuri bridge had been very much hindered owing to the continuous high Hoods in the river. So far only nine piles had been driven. The Board then adjourned. — Standard.
