Feilding Jockey Club.
The annual meeting ot the above was held at the Manchester Hotel yesterday evening. Present — Messrs Walter Bailey (Chair), Allen, Light, Buchanan, Sandilands, Ridley, Kirton, Lance, Bastings, Burlace, Sherwill, Morey, Smith, Bellve, Curtis, Wollerman, Gosling, Jackson, Dr. Johnson, and the Secretary, Mr Goodbehere. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. Proposed by Mr Kirton, seconded by Mr Sandilands, that the report and balance-sheet as read be adopted. — Carried. Mr Kirton, in proposing the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the Club on its prosperous position — a result due to the exertions of the out-going committee and stewards, and also to Mr Goodbehere, the secretary. The speaker urged that the new committee should take steps to acquire the freehold of the course. Mr Sandilands in speaking to the motion said that the course could be purchased for £1488, they had £200 on deposit in the Bank which would leave only £1288 to be found and this sum could be borrowed at 70/o leaving about £90 per annum for interest. At the present time the Club pays by way of rent £49 and the landlord gets the grazing for which the Club, if it became the owner, could obtain a rental of £50 exclusive of the racing track, thus the Club would wake a direct saving of £8 per annum, and would be enabled to conserve the racing track which would not then be injured as has hitherto been the case by reason of the sheep making tracks over it, and thereby compelling the Club to be continually spending money to repair the damage thus occasioned. Correspondence was read from the Secretary of the* Rangitikei Racing Club forwarding a copy of a resolution passed at the annual meeting of that Club as follows :— " That this Club is of opinion that the Metropolitan Club | should be constituted of representaives from each Club in the district, such representation to be apportioned on the basis of the amount of stakes given." A letter was also received from the Manawatu Racing Club to a similar effect. Proposed by Mr Sandilands, seconded by Mr Jackman, that this Club co-operate with the Rangitikei and Manawatu Racing Clubs, with a view to country Clubs having more representation on the Metropolitan Committee. — Carried. Correspondence was also received from the Otaki Hack Club, suggesting that steps should be taken to form a Hack Racing Association. The election of officers resulted as follows : — Mr F. Y. Lethbridge was re-elected President. Mr Wm. Bailey was re-elected Vice-President. Mr W. H. Hartgill was elected Judge. Mr Allen, Treasurer (re-elected) ; Mr W. G. Haybittle, Clerk of Scales (re-elected) ; Mr Scott, Time-keeper, (re-elected). The appointment of Clerk of the Course was left in the hands of the Committee. Mr E. Wood, Starter (re-elected). Committee : Messrs Walter Bailey, Bastings, Sandilands, Jackman, Saunders, Sherwill, Morey, Haybittle, Gosling, Light, and Burlace. Stewards : Messrs Lance, Saunders, Bastings, Bailey, Jackman, Sherwill, and Sandilands. Mr Sandilands proposed, and Mr Burlace seconded, That Mr Coyle, of Bulls, be appointed handicapper. The Secretary, Mr E. Goodbehere, proposed, and Mr Gosling seconded, That Mr J. E. Henry be re-elected handicapper. The proposer spoke in high terms of Mr Henry's abilities, and urged his re-election. Mr Sandilands withdrew his proposition, and Mr Henry was unanimously re-elected handicapper to the Club. Mr Goodbehere was elected a Trustee of the Club. I It was resolved that the in-coming Committee be instructed to obtain a lease of the land on the south side of the course running parallel with it, and leading from South street to the paddock, on the same terms as the lease of the course is held.' A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings. The report of the out-going committee read as follows : — Your Committee in presenting the Annual Statement of Receipts and Expenditure for the year 1892-93, again have the satisfaction of being able to congratulate you upon the highly satisfactory position the Club still holds.
