I Sir Patrick Buckley moved the second reading of trie Public Domains Acts Amendment Bill, which provides that reserves shall be handed over to local bodies. Mr Bo wen strongly protested against the measure, as he considered legislation should jealously guard the public grounds for the sake of posterity. He protested against the public being prevented from using reserves whenever gate money for sports or races is required. Messrs Shrimski, Bolt, Morris, and Reynolds strongly opposed the Bill, whilst Messrs McCullough and W. C. Walker supported it. The second reading was agreed to, and the Bill was sent to the Waste Lands committee. The second reading of the Timber Floating Amendment Bill was agreed to. The Journalist Bill wns further considered in committee. Clause 10 byelaws and constitution, was struck out. Mr Feldwick proposed a new clause compelling leader writers to sign their names to articles. This was rejected. The Bill was reported to the Council with amendments, and the third reading was fixed for Tuesday, and the Council then adjourned.
