Fischer, of Camden street, has lost a bright little girl six yearn of age through an attack of diphtheria. The child was only ill three or four days. The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon at 2 p.m. The Pasteur Institute in Paris is still as popular a resort for bvdrophobic patients as it was when tho fame of the scientist's cures by innoculation was at the flood- tide. The other day ten portions who had been bitten by a mad dog. presented themselves in v body to rocoiyo troatment. The barque Weathers Geld, which was floated off the Otakl beach after lying thero a number of years, has been refitted and sailed from Wellington yesterday for Newcastle for a cargo of coals for a Wellington dealer. The vessel is under tho command of Captain Dawson, formerly of tbe Union Company. The Pohaugina Christy Minstrels are billed to appear at Colyton to-morrow evening. A pamphlet entitled " Electricity at Home," issued by the New Zealand Electrical Syndicate, which deals with electric lighting of private houses and contains a good deal of useful matter bearing upon the subject, has been forwarded to the Town Clerk for free distribution amongst ratepayers, and others, desirous of information on this important question. The special correspondent at Wellington of the Taupeka Times, wrote of Mr Brace's speech that ''it was a splendid specimen of oratory, full of thought, of fine sentiment, of passion and of magnificent scorn. When tbe House loses Mr Bruce, as it will at the closo of the session, it will lose its most brilliant speaker, and most respected member, and the Opposition one of its best speakers." Some sheep-owners are in tho habit of omitting from their returns sheep sold but not delivered. Mr Duncan Gillanders, of Waikaia, has just been fined £10, and costs, for so omitting 1600 sheep, which, in consequence, were not in any returns. Though tbe tax on Mr Gillander's sheep only amounted to 82s, yet the practice, considering there are 16,000 sheep-owners in the colony, would result in large loss to the Agricultural Department if not checked and the Department is determined to put a stop to it.
