Bunnythorpe Notes

On Saturday night last a public meet- ' ing was held in the Town Hal), to consider the celebration of Arbor Day, when > it was decided to plant trees in various parts of Bunnytborpe. A committee was appointed to carry out the arrangements, such as getting trees, etc. It was also decided to send a deputation to wait on the Manchester Road Board, with a view of getting that body to metal the cemetery road. The Manawatn Road Board formed the road, and, as it is used principally by ratepayers in the Manchester district, it is only fair this board should do the ' metalling. On Saturday next, Mr Piranf, at the invitation of the temperance party, will address a meeting here. An effort is to be made to amalgamate a portion of tho Manawatu road district with No. 5 ward of tho Manchester district. If successful, the board's offices will, perhaps, be at Bunnythorpe. The opening of the new English Church at Bunnythorpe was celebrated last evening. A public tea was held at 6.80 in the Hall, and services were afterwards conducted by the Rev. W. Davenish, assisted by the Rev. Mr Harvey, from Palmerston. The attendance at the tea was very large, and full justice was done to the good things provided by Mesdames Gascoigne, Shera, Cookslev, Boddy, Derby, Bartlett, Russell, Wiggins, Towers, Miss Heppel, and a few others whose names we were unable to ascertain. Before the tea commenced, prizes were presented by the Rev. Mr Darenish to the following scholars attending the Sunday School, viz.: Rudolph Boddy, Adeline Shera, Alice Cooksley, Ida Gascoigne, and Charles Gascoigne. At the services in in the church, the Rev. Mr Harvey took for his text verses 86 and 87 of the 4th chapter of Acts of the Apostles. Mr Homer presided at the organ. The dimensions of the church are 80 feet by 15, and it is to be named St. Barnabas.
