Eighty deaths from typhoid fever hare occurred at Worthing in Sussex. The victims are buried at night, and all excursion trains to the town are stopped. Mr J. Wilson is suing the London evening papern for £1000 for libel for accusing him of recklessly expending the funds of the Seamen's Union, of which he is secretary. In hi* evidence in (he libel suit, Mr Wilson admitted that local securities to the extent of L2OOO hnd been embezzled, and also lhat the expenditure per annum on salaries and management amounted to nearly L 20.000 before the members of the union derived any benefits. The Court awarded the Hawnrden Castle £7000 for assisting the lonic when she broke her shaft off Capetown. Of this amount £5900 goes to the owner and the rest to the captain and crew. Cardinal Moran's illness is caused by overwork in connection with his history of the Roman Catholic Church in Australia. July 25. Mr Wilson Lloyd, Conservative member for Wednesbury, has resigned. Gaudar beat Hanlan by seven lengths. Lord Dudley has called a meeting of his.creditors. His liabilities are £800,000, and his assets £48,000. City men approve of Sir G. The Globe thinks it will be interesting to watch New South Wales abolishing the payment of members, and considers it surprising that the system was ever adopted. Mr E. S. Dawes, one of the Directors of the Queensland National Bank, addressing a meeting stated that no new capital would be issued without the consent of the shareholders. Coal has advanced 3a per ton. At present there is no prospect of a settlement of the strike. Cholera has appeared in Piedmont a compartment of the Kingdom of Italy, and in Smyrna a seaport of Asia Minor. Nkw York. July 25. News received here report that Matabele and Impi (warriors) are crossing Smfuii river and advancing on Fort Salisbury. The police are preparing to arrest their progress. Washington. July 25M. Simpson, Member for Kansas has submitted to Congress a Bill proposing to purchase Canada. Munich, July 25. King Otto is in a critical condition.
