A Maori mooting is being held at Kaikoho to consider the actiou of a Tohunga named Wiremu Pohi, for treating natives for Witchcraft and casting out devils. The treatment adopted was pouring boiling water on their naked bodies and by applying hot mashed potatoes so that in some cases the flesh peeled off. Fifty deaths are attributed to this cause.
