Mr Matthew Henry reports : — At the Manawatu Live Stock Auction Market there was a fair entry of both sheep and cattle, composed of a consignment from Taranaki and Mr Brogden's dairy. For sheep, the demand at auction was not brisk ; but ultimately all were cleared to vendors' satisfaction. For Mr Brogden's dairy stock bidding was well i maintained, resulting in almost a total clearance at good prices* Quotations as under : — Cattle. — Mr Brogden's cows, £5 os, £7, £7 15s to £9 ss ; cows in calf, £6 ss; £9 12s and £7; springing heifers, £5 10s to £6 13; 18-month £•3 2s. Sheep. — Ewes in lamb, 9s 6d to 11s 6d ; old do., 7s 5d ; wethers, 2-tooths, 11s 9d ; fat ewes, 10s; lambs, 8s 2d. Messrs Abraham and Williams report : — At our Palmerston yards yesterday cattle came forward in moderate numbers. Beef sold briskly. Other sorts of cattle were fairly competed for on par with recent rates ; almost the whole entry was disposed of. Sheep mustered up numerously and met with a demand sufficiently active to clear the pens. Cattle. — Fat bullocks from £'G to £7 2s Gd ; fat cows, £5 3s to £5 15s ; a choice fat heifer, £G ; do. cow, £G 12s 6d; forward heifers, £4 15s; grown steers, 44 4s to £5 7s 6d ; 2-year-old heifers, £3 14s to £5 6d. Sheep. — Fat wethers, 13s 8d ; forward do., 13s Id ; breeding ewes ; 8s 5d to 12s 9d according to quality and condition ; shorn hoggets, 7s 7d ; those in wool, 9s 7d.
