The speech from the throne was colorless, Ii was announced thnt a Bill will be introduced in the Legislative Assembly, increasing the duty on tea to 6d per lb and on sugar to Od per cwt. In the Council Mr Douglas stated the deficiency was yery large and would bave to be met by an income, probate, and land taxes. Tho Hon. P. O. Fysch declared if the revenue conttnues as at present there would be a deficiency of £400,000 at the end of the year. Brisbane, July 18. The Estimates, which will probably be E resented to Parliament to-morrow, have een reduced by £300,000 as compared with the previous year. This will necessitate the dismissal of 600 Civil servants. The reduction is specially prominent in the Defence Department, and one or two crops are to be dispensed with altogether.
