The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, JULY 16, 1893. Borough Affairs
Thk damages done by flood water to streets, bridges and culverts within tinlust few days although inconsiderable yet they will cost money to repair. We hold that the timo has now nrrived when the Council should think seriously of taking the stops necessary to raise a new loan for tho purpose of building suitable municipal buildings and undertaking the drainage of the Borough. At a special meeting of the Council, to be held on the 27th inst., the whole question of drainage will be considered, but we hope before that time the Mayor, with the assistance of bis fellow Councillors, will have prepared the draft of a scheme to be submitted that its merits may be fairly discussed, and a definite conclusion arrived at. It is no use waiting until the night of meeting, and trusting to inspiration then. The ratepayers will want to have the fullest confidence placed in them, and every possible detail submitted to their criticism before they will consent to undertake any new liabilites for public building or works of any description. The better they are informed on the subject, the more likely will they be to fall into the views of the council. The personnel of the borough council is at the present time exceptionally good. They possess the entire confidence of the burgesses. They are all business men of experience and good sense, therefore, we do not doubt but that they will do their best to help in the progress of the town, as well as the townspoople, by increAßing the comfort of those already resident here.
