(PFB PBKSS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington. July 14. Sir Patrick Buckley, replying to Mr Hart, said no bookmakers pay a license fee to Government for attending races. None nre licensed and no fees nre pnid. The amount received by Government up to the end of the financial year from the .tax on the totalisator was £10,800. Mr Auckland called nttention to the alarming increase of rabbits in South Canterbury, nnd asked if steps hud been taken to inquire into the plaguo with a view to stop its ravages. Sir Patrick Buckley said tbe Chief Inspector had examined the country and appointed sub-inspectors, which action he trusted would have the effect of abating the nuisance. On the motion for the committal of the Payment of Members Bill, Sir Patrick Buckley, replying to Mr Reynolds and Sir G. S. Whitmore, said he would consult his colleagues and see whether the recently appointed members of the Council should be victims of a defective law, though he feared the Legislative Council would be opposed to retrospective legislation. Both this Bill and the Companies Branch Register Bill were put through the final stages. The Council then adjourned till Tuesday.
