A largely attended meeting of tJiose interested in the liquor traffic was held nt 8t friul's to-night, when the following resolutions were passed unanimously :■— (1) That in view of the very serious evil, -which in many forms has resulted from, and which still continues to be caused by, the liquor traffic as carried on in this Colony ; in view also that <t is evidently hopeless to expect the counteraction of that evil from the administration of the existing Ljooqsiag Act, thin meeting (tarns it imperative ■that; for the purpote o! inch counteracion, radical alteration should at once be made in the lam dealing with such traffic. (2) That thiß meeting strongly favors the principle of the Hill entitled the Electoral Districts Alcoholic Liquors Prohibition Act, 1893, by which it is proposed to confer upon the electors a power of direct veto over the liquor traffic. (3) That the chairman be directed to send a copy of the previous resolutions passed to Mr A. D. Willis, the member for this district, and at the same time to express to him their hope and request that he will, to the utmost of hi« power, pwfrnotc the Direct Veto Act in his place in Parliament ; that the meeting also direct a copy to be sent to 11. $tout, the author of the Bill, and to the Rev. Mr Walker, of the New Zealand Temperance Alliance.
