The Blaramberg Case.
The special sitting of the Supremo Court commenced yesterday morning before His Honour the Chief Justice, when the case Blaramberg v. Browne was called on. Mr Jellicoe, for the plaintiff, asked that, as there was every probability of a settlement of the case, the Couit should adjourn till 2 p.m. to allow time for the completion of the terms of settlement. Mr Fitzherbert said "The defendant agreed," and the Court was accordingly adjourned. Upon resuming. Mr Fitzherbert said, "The secretary wrote the letter referred to in the statement of claim, confidentially, to the Pal-met-ston North Committee, with a view of consulting as to Mr Blaramberg's retention as teacher at Terrace End. The letter referred to the result of a previous examination and inspection of the school, and was never intended by the writer or the Board, by whose instructions it was written, to bo published. Mr Blaramberg was with tho Board twelve years, and bis moral character was above reproach. It was not intended to impute mcompetency to Mr Blaramberg, but that looking to results a change was desirable at the school," Mr Jellicoe said, "The plain, tiff entirely withdraws all imputations of malice or improper conduct against * the defendant in connection with the letter written by the defendant to the Palmersten Committee, and admits that it was a confidential letter written by the defendant under the instructions of the Board." These statements having been made, His Honor ordered the discharge of the jury. —Herald.
