Mr Carr made his debut as auctioneer, and in his introductory remarks said he would do nil he could to forward the interests of the farmers. He wns well acquainted with their requirements.,.. lt vWfCndt ihnhe power ofthe auctionee|Lto Jfalfi^ tbe^Alliince a success, as it rested with the farmers themselves. He had received instructions not to stimulate the market, buying or engaging others to buy so as to cause a fictitious business. He congratulated the Alliance and farmers on tho large attendance and entry. He asked their indulgence for his first attempt to wield the hammer. His remarks were frequently applauded.
