She reports -that no fighting had taken place when she left, although the rela tions between the factions were greatly strained. A heavy thunderstorm passed over the city this afternoon. While standing under a verandah in Jervois road, Ponsonbjr, Edward Kuan, a City Council laborer, was knocked senseless by the lightning. He was unconscious for two hours. Woodvillk, July 10. Gladys Lynch, a child of eight, was severely burnt through her clothes catching alight while lighting a fire. Her condition is critical. Kaikoura, This Day. A large meeting held here last night carried a resolution with but two dissentients, in favor of Direct Veto on the liquor question. A resolution was also carried with but five dissentients in favor of allowing each licensing district to decide for itself on the matter. I
