Pohangina Boad Board
The regular monthly meeting of the above board was held on Saturday last. Present — Wardens Burton (in the chair), Bell, and Browne. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received as follows : — From the Treasury, stating that the £3000 loan money had been placed to credit of the boards's bankers. | From F. Richards, J. A. Neilson, C. Patterson, P. Linde, and Harrison «k Collison, requesting that the thirds available from their respective sections may be spent in surveying road line from the Pohangina Valley road up Coal Creek. From Mr Dickin, chairman of the board, stating that important private engagements would prevent him from attending the meeting. From H. Tolley, denying liabilities for rates on section 32, Block XII, Apiti, as the land had not yet been surveyed. From Donald McKenzie, objecting to any expenditure on a footbridge in Apiti township whilst the roads were in such a bad condition. From R. Horn it Co., requesting a return of their deposits on contracts for erecting a bridge. From A. S. Aldrich, junr., requesting permission to fall the bush on the road line fronting section 3, Block 11, Pohangina ; also, from A. Butts, making a similar request in respect to section 26, Wanganui Harbor Board Block. From John Jeffries, desiring the board to find the front pegs of his sections in the Wanganui Harbor Board Block. From J. Warnock, stating that he was over-rated in respect to his sections. From J. Hopkirk, R. Print, E. C. Green, and J. Print, ratepayers in Block 11, Gorge Survey District, requesting that a bridle track, or road, should be made to their sections. From W. Bramley, Foxton, asking the board to clear the timber oft* No. 3 Line from the main road, Pohangina. From Samuel Hall, asking permission to lease gravel reserve 23, Block XV, Apiti. From tne Lands and Survey Office, stating that £63 10s 5cL accrued thirds to the 31st October next, had been placed to the board's credit with their bankers. good flate of reDair, owing to the heitvy veins and, in many cases, great traffic on certain roads. ajr Aldrich, junr., waited upon the board with reference to his request re falling the road line. Warden Browne said that in about a fortnight's time he would be calling a meeting of ratepayers in No. 1 ward to consider loan proposals, and if carried, the work Mr Aldrich wished to have done could be carried out by means of this loan money, and it would be advisable to let the matter stand over for a few week 5.,,,... . .-...,■ :,„.^-'.« f! . ? Proposed ,by Warden Browne, seconded by Warden Bell, That Mr Butts be granted permission to fell the road line half a chain wide, on the Board's usual terms. Carried. Proposed by Warden Browne, seconded by Warden Bell, That the name of Henry Burgess be put on the rate roll for section 27, Harbour Board Block, in lieu of that of John , Saxon ; and that of H. H. Miller in place of E. Miller for section 5, Block X., Apiti Survey District. Carried. Proposed by Warden Burton, seconded by Warden JJell. That the Engineer be instructed^ to prepare plans and estimates for the construction of a bridge over the Oroua on the Oroua Valley road. Carried. Proposed by Warden Bell, seconded by Warden Browne, That the Engineer lay off a road line from the junction of the Pohangina River and Coal Creek, as far as Mr Nilsson's section, and spend thereon the amount of thirds in hand. Carried. Proposed by Warden Browne,' seconded by Warden Bell, That Mr A. Richards be informed that he must pay the balance £4 5s due to ••he Board for tbe privilege of collecting the dog tax on or before the 22nd inst ; otherwise the Board will take proceedings for the recovery of the same. Carried. Proposed by Warden Browne, seconded by Warden Burton, That Mr Jefferies be informed that the Board does not recognise its liability to find road pegs. Carried. Proposed by Warden Browne, seconded by Warden Bell, That in calling for tenders for road formation and metalling, tenderers have the option of tendering either separately or in conjunction. Carried. Proposed by Warden Burton, seconded by Warden Bell, That the Secretary inform Mr Tolley that the rates are legally due, and that he will \ be expected to pay the same. Carried. Proposed by Warden Burton, seconded by Warden Bell, That the Engineer be instructed to get timber cleared off No. 3 Line from the Pohangina Main road, and that Mr Horn's deposit be returned at next meeting of the Board. Carried. Proposed by Warden Bell, seconded by WardenJJßurton, That notice be given tbat it is tbis Board's intention at a special meeting tp be held on the 2nd of September, 1893, to confirm the following special order : that a special rate of 3|d in the £ be struck over the whole of the rateable property in the No. 3 Ward, to provMe interest on a loan of £4970 to be borrowed under the Loans to Local Bodies Act 1886, such rate to he annually recurring for 26 years. Carried. Proposed by Warden Burton, seconded by Warden Bell, That Messrs Fowles and Bilderbeek be given notice to fall the dead trees likely to block the road, or the Board will take steps to have the work done 7 at those gentlemen's expense. Carried, y The Board went into committee to deal with tenders, and on resuming the ordinary business the following were accepted on the motion of Warden Browne, seconded by Warden' ' Bell :— Contract No. 11, T. Young ; No. 12, G. H. Anderson; Na 13,, McCurdy and MoKee; No. 14, R. Home and Co.; No. 15, J. Carmody ; No. 17, R. Home and Coy Accounts amounting to £219 14s 9d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. — — — —^-; .
