(PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION). Donedik, July 3. The annual Lawn Tennis match be. tween Canterbury College and the Otago University was played to-day. There were some interesting games, and as each club won three sets the match was drawn. The Supreme Court was occupied today with a case in which William Reihs claimed £50 damages from Mrs SiJk Plaintiff had been boots at defendant's restaurant. One out of eleven geese which had been given him to hang up was missing, and he alleges that defendant called him a thief and a robber. Justice Williams gave a verdict for 40s and costs on the lowest scale. Napieb, July 3. Information has been received here of the murder of a Maori women named Taioa by Peni Neri at Tehauke. Soon after committing the crime th« murderer dropped dead. The cause is unknown. I Wellington, This Day. The Minister for Defence ha 3 promoted ; fourteen third class constables in various parts of the Colony, who have completed seven years' service with credit, to second class rank. A similar step will be takeu ; in respect to second class constables.
