The following nre the principal features of the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Act introduced by the Premier. It ia proposed to repeal section 65 of the Alunluipal Corporation Act, 1886, and to substitute the following scale of votes : — On rateable property of less than £50, one vote; less than £150 two votes; over £\n0 t three votes. . For mayoral elections the single voto is retained. A burgess is not to be enrolled in more than one ward in a divided borough, and in the case of a borough divided into wards a vote given in one ward slwill not be contributed to by a qualification appearing on the roll for some other ward. Where more than one person appeurs on the (roll for the sume property the first named only will be taken as a voter. Every burgess whose mime appears on the roll of more thnn one ward must declare in which w«rd be will elect to vote in before March next and if any burgess fail to do *o the Council is to decide. The purchase of land for a State Farm or Village Settlement in. relief of congested population in a borough in declared a work for which the Colonial Treasurer may advance money to a Council, which may place such farm or settle ment|under any charitable institutions, and make by-laws governing it. To meet some cases which have occurred in Wellington, power is given Councils to alter the names of streets. The powers as to nuisances arc extended, nnd power is. given to expend on the improvement and maintenance of recreation grounds surplus moneys which were originally voted in respect of other reserves. Section 416 of the existing Act is to be repealed, and fresh ne^uj/itions are made an regards by'lnwss. Hy-!a,\vs are to be made for the licensing of dairymen and purveyors of milk, aud the inspection of dairies and ensuring tho purity of milk sold. A large number of more or less important amendments are also proposed.
