1 — . . 1 Manawatu Kuoby Union. A meeting of the above was held at Mr Donnelly's yesterday evening. The following delegates were present — Messrs 1 Kelleher and Storey (Palmerston North), Remington (Bulls), Smith and Leys 1 'Marton), Lloyd (Awahuri), Palmer (Keahaka), McMillan (Pirates), Aitken 1 (Feilding), and the secretary (Mr Elliot) The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, The meeting then considered a protest, which had been lodged by the Pirates, 1 against the try obtained by Bulls on Saturday last. The reasons assigned were, that offside play took place, and further, that the ball wan fairly held by two players before being touched down. The meeting decided to hear the referee's, Mr Hathaway, version as to what took place. That gentleman, on being called in, stated that the only appeal he adjudicated upon was on the grounds of tbe ball being dead, and this he decided against the pirates. No appeal was made for offside play, or that the ball had been held by two players before being touched down. Mr Kelleher proposed, and Mr McMillan seconded, That the Captain of the Pirates be allowed to give his version as to what took place. An amendment was moved by Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Leys, to the effect that the referee's decision be upheld. On being put to the meeting, the amendment was declared carried by five votes to three. The meeting's reason for not hearing the Pirates' captain was based on the grounds that what they had to decide upon was, that the question at issue wbb one of facts only, and not on the laws of the game, consequently tho referee's decision must be considered final. Mr Lloyd proposed, and Mr Kelleher seconded, that the deposit of 10s be returned. — Carried. Mr McMillan gave notice that the Pirates would appeal to the N.Z. Rugby Union, on the grounds that the referee was incompetent. The following transfers were agreed to : —Mr McMillan from Hunterville to tbe Pirates, and Mr Pallant from Palmerston to the Keakahaa. Resolved, That the drawn game Awahuri v. Pirates be played on 12th August at Palmerston. The secretary was instructed to write to Wellington and arrange for a junior representative match, to be played at Palmerston. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Bulls. This concluded the business.
