Social and Concert
Last nieht a social and concert was hold in Short* Hail, but owing Jo the inclemency of the went her the attendance was not great. The following programme wa« cone through :— Song. ' Beacon Light,' by Mm Clements was well rendered, and van followed by a recitation by Miss Heald. which was duly appreciated. The duet ' Are your windows open,' was meely rendered bf Mr and Mrs Fidler. Mtis Phillip*, of Awahari, recited ' A Christmas Green* in an accomplished manner. Miss Curtis rendered the solo ' Lo ! at Thj Feet ' with taste and feeling, Mr A. Hickford (Junior), gare a reading ' The two faithful lovers ' which elicited roars of laughter. Mrs J. C. Thompson sang ' The Pilgrims of the Night ' rery sweetly. A recitation 'Joe' by Mr* Clements was feelingly rendered. Mr J. C. Thompson read a description of 'A Back»settler's Stores ' in good style ; and Mr Clement also gave a reading which wai both instructireand aroming This concluded tbe programme Daring the evening light refreshments were handed round by the ladies, and were much appreciated. The Her Mr Clement intends to con* tinue these sixpenny concerts during the winter months, the dates of which will be duly advertised.
