The town schools hare been closed for ■ 10 days on account of the measles epidemic. To-day the attendance was about half the number on the roll. Danevibke, June 14. A shocking affair happened here last night. A man named Willis, a mghtsoil contractor, was going his round, when a kerosene lamp strapped tound his body exploded. At the satne time his horse bolted, and Willis, instead of attending to himself, went after the horso. Haying caught the animal, ho tried to take the 1 lamp off himself, but could not do so, and his clotheti rapidly became a macs of fire. Everything was burned off him except his leggins, aud ho was terribly injured and was sent t) the Waipukurau Hospital.
