The Engineer's report stated: that he had met Mr Lucas re loan proposals, and the latter had requested that: fflpt matter be held over for a while, as otjur roads than those in the schedule would have to be included. Mr Forsaith has taken the whole of his men, «nd plant, off his con* tract in No. 2 ward, and left the same in an unfinished state. Mr McMillan's contract in No. 8 ward is in a very unsatisfactory state. The road is a complete maw of mud, and too many large stonos have been put on it. The slaughter houses are in a satisfactory condition. In reference to Mr Jefferies' letter, re Pollock's road, Mr Browne stated tbat be could hold out no hopes of being able to do anything in the matter* The only way to deal with it would be to make application for a loan. The chairman said ne could hold out no hope of the board's being able to do anything for at least twelve months in connection with Mr Jefferies' application, as the ward is now overdrawn. Mr Thomas Etheripgton, of Feilding, wrote asking the board to do' something to No. 1 Line, so that he could get stock to his section, which is, at present, quite inaccessible owing to t&e jcoaa being quite impassable.— The engineer's report deals with this matter, and he will lay off the road during the coming month. . % .. Mr Arbon stated that at .;a| meeting in No. 4 ward, it had been deoided to allow the loan application to lapse until settlement had progressed further in that block. • Resolved, that Mr Shadbolt ba informed that the board sympathises with him in his mistake for No. 4 contract, but that it cannot see its way clear to create a precedent by paying more than the contract price. Resolved, that Ball Bsos,, thirds be spent opposite their section 10, No. 8 ward. Resolved, that the amount of tenders be not published until alter the contract is signed. .Resolved, That Mr Grieve be informed tbat the Board cannot take any action in the matter referred to, at present, Resolved, That Mr Fomith be given permission to leave bis contract till more favorable weather; the contractor to take all rinks from slips, etc. Besolved. That the Board's offices be moved into its own district, snd that suitable offices be erected by next meeting. The monthly accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
