A few days ago the Wanganui Chronicle suggested to local tradesmen the desirability of forming some kind of a society for the purpose of protecting themselves against the impositions of " bad marks," and generally purifying the credit system — if such a thing is possible. Since then a prominent business man has taken the matter in hand and canvassed the town to ascertain the feeling amongst tradesmen. £o far the proposal has met with marked approval. Our contemporary hopes something must vomo oi the suggestion now set on foot, and it should not be long before all honeßt people of the community will be able to rejoice in the knowledge that they are at least not being taxed to pay the deficit caused by the practice of those to whom the form of a clean receipt is as foreign as a conscience, and as unintelligible as the dictates of justice. We trust that our Foiiding business people, who are represented in tho local Chamber of Commerce, will also make au effort in the same direction for protection against rogues.
