The vacancy in the Macleai'y seat, caused by the resignation of Mr O. O. Dangar, has been filled by the election of Mr Clark, Protectionist. There has been a general break up of the drought in Queensland, nnd the far west portion of this colony. The New Zealand Insurance Company has a risk of £2886 on the Sydney Soap and Candle Works. A partial holiday was observed today in honor of the arrival of Sir It. Duff, the new Governor of New South "Wales. Immense crowds thronged the route taken by his carriage, and a most cordial reception was given him. Melbourne, This Day. Heavy rains have fallen throughout Victoria. Adelaide, This Day. The severest gale ever experienced in the city blew last night, and did a great deal of damage. Floods are reported from the country districts, and the Northern railway line to Broken Hill is damaged. A girl was drowned at Stirling in the flooded district. A number of miners are leaving for the South African gold and diamond fields,
