Ballot for Forfeited Land
Some time since tLe Commissioner of Crown Lnnds invited applications for 2G sections of first and second class unsurveyed land, comprising in all G869 acres, which had been forfeited for non-fulfil-ment of the conditions by the persons to whom they were allocated. The sections wore situated in the surrey districts of Pohangina, Apiti, and Ongo. Applications were receivable up till -1 HO p m. on Thursday. The upset price per acre ranged from £2 down to IDs. 315 ap plications in all were received, and as ap> plicantshad the option of choosing the cash systera of purchase, occupation with right of purchase, or the leisoin perpetuity, it is interesting to note that 198 made application for occupation with the right to purchase, 90 indicated a preference for the lease in perpetuity, and 27 were prepared to purchase on the nash systera.
