The hearing of the charge of larceny of a silver watch, gold chain and swivel valued at £9 Is 6d, tht , property of T. S, Cormsh, of Beaconßfiolcl was than proceeded with. T. S, Cornish deposed, that as he wae 1 returning homo on the afteenoon in ques< ' r tion, he observed the accused coming , round the back of the house. The accused r who soomod slightly conf usod asked tht , way to Lyon's camp ; witness then weni j inside, and at once missed the articles j mentioned in the charge, Ultimately on searching some adjoining bush with a ' number of others on the following day, a \ quantity of clothing and the swiyel now r produced in court were found but no trace i of the watch and ofaam has yet been obtained. Cross-examined : Witness had a long I conversation with tho accused when he came out of the bush, aud asked him to \ give up tbe watch and nothing more . should be heard of the matter, at the same ' time pointing out certain suspicious cirJ cumstances againsi him ; his replies to nearly every question were •• he did not know."
