Extensive Alterations at Mr Cobbe's Brick Store
Mr Cobbo lias found it necessary, since Ihe dissolution of partnership, to make extensive alterations at thf above preni- . iscs, as the present show-room has been found totally inadequate for Ihe proper display of his Urne and varied stock of drapery and millinery goods, owing to the constantly increasing business transacted at this popular establishment. The decorative work on the larce new show-room upstairs, has been carried out by Mr Tozer in a rery excellent manner. The woodwork of the walls and Ceiling is coaled with a p« lent called calcimine, in three shades, viz : ceiling pea green, the upper portion of the walls in cream color, the 1 wer part, forming the dado, brought out in' sage green of the name material, with ornamental design divid* ing the upper portion of the walls from the dado. The remaining woodwork is stained and varnished in keeping with the walls. These colors have been care-, fully selected with a view to please' the. eye, nnd to suit drapery eoods when ex. hibited. which double effect can only be obtnined by using neulinl tints. The floor space of the show»room proper is 42 feet square, and is one of the large- 1 on the*coast. A novel feature on these premises, and one very seldom found nut>He lnr«e cities, will be the ladies' re* fresh m nl'room, 18 by lOj feet, where " the cup that cheers but does not ineb> riute," will be dispensed by a fair de« moiselle, a boon which will undoubtedly be Appreciate:] by tlie visiting ladies. The water will be boiled by a specially made" Tarawera waler boiler" which, accomplishes its work in the space of a few seconds. A large workroom, 32 by 20 feet, capitally Hchted and ventilated, the windows mndc of fire»proof shutters rased on each side with tinned steel, is one of the adjuncts to this wcl'-nrranged building. A ladies' lavatory 10| feet sq . fitted up on all the latest sanitary principles, with every needful , conreniencc, has also been provided.' A capital view can be obt lined, from the showroom win dow fronting the square, tf rsoaui, and on the other hand the Kun nine rtini»es stand ont prominently, and quite an extensive panorama lies stretched out before the onlooker. These very considerable alterations and improvements hare been cxv ecuted in first-class style, and regardless of expense, and customers will find the premises most admirably adapted for coping with the coixtantlj increasing business transacted at this establishment, which is now second to nooe cm the West Coast.
