Feilding Borough Council
The regular monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Thursday evening last. Present — Messrs Goodbehere (Mayor), Gould, Carthew, Haybiitle, Lethbridge, Chamberlain, Fowles, Thomson, and Sandilands. The minutes of the iast meeting were, read and confirmed. The foUowing correspondence was received :— From E. M. Fowles, requesting to be placed on the rate roll in lieu of G. W. Fowles for Fection 156, also from R. M. Reid. requesting that Emma Belk's name be substituted for hts for section 507. From John Taylor, requesting permission to erect a sign board in front of his new chop in Manchester Square, also that fl small drain may be put uuder the footpath, and a culyert in the water table to form an approach to bis shop. From Mr Giesen, asking for a copy of the proposed deed re vesting the recreation ground in trustees. From tbe Government Railway, Wanganui, requesting the Council's reasons for asking that the ffax on the railway reserve be cleared off. Before the business commenced, Cr Lethbridge proposed, aud Cr Haybittle seconded, that the Mayor send a letter of condolence and sympathy with Mrs Ballance, on behalf of the inhabitants of Feilding, on the loss of her late husband, the Hon J. Ballance. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Fowles that the report of tbe Finance Committee be adopted.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Fowles, that permission be granted Mr Taylor to orect a sign post, and construct a drain across the footpath in Manchester Square. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Gould, that the requests of B. M. Reid and that of G. W. Fowles re alterations to rate roll be agreed to. -Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Thompson, that an ordinary rate of ls, and a library rate of one penny in the £, on tbe whole of the rateable value of the property within the Borough be hereby made for the financial year ending 31st March 1894, such rates to be payable in one sum on the 18th inst. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles. seconded by Cr Carthew. that the name of Mr W. A. Sandilands be placed on the burgess list instead of that of H. L. Sherwill in respect of sections 113 to 117, and 129 to 131,— Carried. Proposed by Cr Haybittto, seoonded by Cr Lethbridge, that the Mayor be authorized to take the necessary steps for having the late pound site fenoed and the suggested alterations to the new shelter shed be carried out at a cost of 30s, and that the rent of the pound section be paid to the Colonists Land and Loan Corporation. — Carried, Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, that tbe Clerk of Works be authorized to construct a ford over Uie Makino stream in Denbigh street. — Carried. Pioposed by Cr Sandilands. seoonded Cr Lethbridge, that at the first meeting in September next, and at the aunual meeting in September thereafter, there be laid on the Council table a record of the nnmber of ordinary and special meeting of the Counoil held for the preceding twelve months' together with the number of attendances of each and every member of the Council. — Carried. The usual monthly accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
