Tho Modern Permanent Building Society, has called a meeting to consider a scheme of reconstruction. It is pro* posed to ask depositors to consent to a renewal of their deposits for five years. recent events having Und a disquieting effect upon some ot the depositors. May 3. Three of tho leading Australian banks aro sending throe quarters of a miihou iv gold to Australia and if necessary, auothor half a million will follow. A rise in tho bank rato of discount is probable in consequence.
