Presbyterian Church, Feildrag

The members: of the above connexion held their annual tea ; meeting at the Foresters' Hall yesterday evening. Tbe tables were very prettily set and decorated with a number ot choice ferns and plants. The following ladies presided at the tables : — Mesdames Sorley, Shearer, Watts, Allan, Whisker, Hamilton, Giesen, Stevens, Bartholomew, and the Misses Murray, Manson, and Giesen. A larp;e number of guests sat down to the ten, which was an excellent one, and was done ample justice to. The Rev. H. M. Murray presided at the after meeting, which was largely attended. The Revs. Ddull (Bulls), Elliott: (Wellington), and Thompson (Palmerston) were also present, and took part in the proceedings. The chairman rgferred in feeling teruag to the losirwbioh the eoYi&fegation had I sustained by the death of Mr John Bartholomew, who was a mnn of sterling worth, and foremost in every good work. He also stated that Mr Shearer, who had stuck manfully to them and who , had worked up the choir to its present state of efficiency, had determined to resign hi 9 position as choirmaster. In Mr George Bartholomew, who had agreed to accept the position, they would find an able successor. ; The next business was tbe appointment of three gentlemen as committee-men. Messrs George Bartholomew, W. Smith and Woolven, after being duly proposed and seconded, were unanimously elected. Mr J. H. Stevens, the Treasurer, then read the report and balance sheet for tbe past year's working. The same was adopted and passed by the meeting,; The following is the Treasurer's roport for tbe year ended 31st December, 1892 :. — " Nothing special calls for mention in: our general fund account, excepting that it shows we have beerr able to pay a supplement of i-20 to the minister and carry forward £11, the better portion of which will probably be similarly disposed of. ''Additions to the manse have been completed at a cost of . iJ4B 15s, of which sum .£25 was included in last year's.accounts. :* >■:'■ " The congregation arid minister are now both contributing to the aped and infirm ministers' fund, which appears to be in a healthy condition. ' " Messrs Thompson and Tank retire from the . committee, and the vacancy caused by Mr Bartholomew's death, should be filled. " A statement of the various accounts, which is appended, showa our finance to be iv a satisfactory condition, — GENERAL FUND.

Mr Stevens referred to the necessity for the congregation to hold together and organize more effectively.,- He would urge that the main object was the financial one, as without money it would be impossible to carry on. ; The Rev. Mr Doull next addressed the meeting. He referred in congratulatory terms to the satisfactory state of their finances especially bearing in mind that they had separated from Halcombe. Mr Doull referred to the satisfactory attend: ance at the Sunday School, and stated that he was having prepared a beautiful certificate, and he advised the children to bear this fact in mind. ' The Rev. Mr Elliott said he was pleased to attend their gathering for the first time, as it gave him an opportunity in some slight measure of repaying Mr Murray for assistance rendered to them in Wellington. The speaker alluded in complimentary terms to the ladies, and to the excellent spread provided. The Rev. Mr Thompson also delivered an interesting address. The chair rendered several anthems in a very pleasing manner, and the customary votes of thanks brought a most successful reunion to a close.
